Automate your transport company in 7 steps

The business world is changing and clients expect more and more. Move with the times and automate your business process wherever possible, in these seven steps.

The clock is ticking

Do you also notice that the business world around you is changing? Are clients expecting more and more from you? Are you no longer fully keeping up with the changing laws and regulations? And do all those new technologies make you uneasy? We get it! As a traditional carrier, you simply will not make it in the near future. The clock is ticking. So prevent customers from switching to someone else of their own accord. Move with the times and automate your business process wherever possible, in these seven steps!

1: Move your order management from paper or Excel to a TMS

Nothing is as time-consuming (and old-fashioned) as transport orders that come in by phone or email. Save yourself the trouble of retyping the information into Excel or printing it out and handing it to a colleague. There is an automatic way to do this: with a Transport Management System. With it, all your transport orders land directly with your planner and are converted into a task for your driver at the click of a button. Do you want access to your TMS environment anytime and anywhere? Then choose a TMS in the cloud.

2: Use all the data in your TMS as broadly as possible

Our OpenTMS in the cloud is fully plug-and-play. This means the software connects with any other system, including your driver’s Fleet Management System. As a result, your transport planning is automatically updated with current data from your fleet, and vice versa. This brings you all kinds of advantages.

3: Connect your TMS with your FMS

We deliberately do very little custom work. Because we know how important it is to move with the times and stay ahead. As a carrier, you can only manage that if you work with software that is continuously renewed. That is why we chose generic software, which we keep developing further with adjustments or new features. On average we have six releases per week, ranging from small to large features. On top of that, we specifically chose generic software in combination with cloud software. This keeps our TMS flexible and accessible to every carrier: from small to large.

4: Share data with clients

By connecting your TMS to your client’s ERP system, incoming orders are sent automatically to your transport planner. You can also easily connect with the sales system of online clients. When something is ordered in their web shop, you receive the order directly in your TMS!

5: Use other communication options where useful

Some clients prefer to communicate via a Control Tower, which our TMS connects with easily as well. Or via the customer portal that comes standard in our TMS, giving clients insight into their order status anytime and anywhere. This way you can, for example, easily pass on the estimated time of arrival (ETA) to your clients.

6: Collaborate smartly with other carriers

Exchange rides and orders with one another using our gateway feature, which makes a technical translation of your order into the system your fellow carrier uses. That way you can easily help each other out during busy periods and never have to disappoint your client!

7: Keep challenging yourself

As an automated transport company, a whole world really opens up for you. Once your digital transport process is rock solid, you naturally develop a taste for it. One integration after another gets developed, making your work as a carrier even more enjoyable and even easier. How about, for example, automatically calculating your CO2 emissions, handy logistics updates, a connection to your BI tool and the statistical transport survey that fills itself in?
