Cargo-Flex: ‘OpenTMS is the heart of my business’
What began as support for sister company Logi-Flex grew into a thriving freight brokerage with OpenTMS as its beating heart.
An unexpected turn
Cargo-Flex grew out of the company Logi-Flex, explains General Director Harry Koopmans. In 2013 a pool of owner-operators joined together in a single organisation: Logi-Flex. Around six years later another company emerged from it, Cargo-Flex, initially with the idea of merely filling the loose gaps, purely in support of Logi-Flex.
A world turned upside down
Things turned out differently, however. Today Cargo-Flex is performing extremely well. There are now even Logi-Flex vehicles running for Cargo-Flex. A world turned upside down, as Koopmans describes it himself.
Short lines as a formula for success
Koopmans set up Cargo-Flex as a freight brokerage. It charters vehicles and provides the owner-operators of Logi-Flex, who are dealing with an empty slot or have space to spare, with extra freight. At Cargo-Flex they work with very short lines and a great deal of personal contact. That is possible because the owner-operators from Logi-Flex already have loyal customers, such as transport companies, and those customers come along with them to Cargo-Flex.
Little overhead, plenty of efficiency
Some time ago his on-board computer supplier pointed Koopmans towards the transport system from FiLogic. This OpenTMS delivers an efficiency gain he is incredibly pleased with. He is therefore busy making the system the heart of his business: from accounting and invoicing through to planning and all kinds of useful data.
Thinking out of the box
Koopmans describes FiLogic as flexible and willing to think along. Whenever he wants something, comes up with an idea, or has a question or problem, the people at FiLogic are immediately ready to help. The big advantage: many entrepreneurs have already been working with it for some time, so his problems are often theirs too. Many different entrepreneurs, both within and outside his sector, contribute input to OpenTMS, which means he benefits from their knowledge and expertise and learns to think more out of the box.
